Perhaps you’ve thought “I’d love to write my own wedding vows, but where do I start?” Or maybe you are looking for sample wedding vows. In any case, this website is for you!

Whether you choose to read your vows aloud yourself, repeat your vows after me, or answer “I do”, you can write your own romantic vows from the beginning or build from these examples.

First, you’ll see brief examples of each vow style, then you’ll see more sample wedding vows, and finally some suggestions for writing your own vows.

Please remember, you don’t each have to have the same vows! You may both agree to begin and / or end with the same phrase, such as “I love you.” Or you may decide to have completely different vows.

“Do you ...?” “I do” vows

(Ernest) No words are sweeter, and no vows are more important, than those you are about to share.
William, do you take Tara to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise before these witnesses that you will love, honor, cherish, respect, and comfort her, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health? Do you promise to share your joys and sorrows, help her when she needs help and turn to her first when you need help, and forsaking all others, to be faithful to her alone?

(William) I do.

(Ernest) Tara, do you take William to be your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise before these witnesses that you will love, honor, cherish, respect, and comfort him, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health? Do you promise to share your joys and sorrows, help him when he needs help and turn to him first when you need help, and forsaking all others, to be faithful to him alone?

Reading your own vows

(Ernest) Wedding vows are a clear and public statement of a couple’s love and commitment to each other. Jordan and Morgan have written their own wedding vows that they’d like to share with us today. Jordan, would you begin, please?

(Jordan) Morgan, from the day that we met at the concert I’ve known that we were meant to be together. You smiled at me and I got lost in your eyes. It’s a good thing that you spoke, because otherwise I’d have looked like a complete idiot. I will trust you, honor you, and respect you. I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will cherish our friendship, and love you today, tomorrow, and always. I am honored to be yours forever.

(Morgan) Jordan, our love of music is the way we met, and my heart sings for you every time I see your face. The way my dog reacted to you sealed your fate. She’s never immediately licked the face of someone I was dating until she met you. I promise to keep our romance alive, to put your needs above my needs, and to share your burdens. I will love you until the last star goes out. I am honored to be yours forever.

Repeating after me

(Ernest) No human bonds are more tender, and no vows are more important, than those you are about to share. [whispered: remember, you are talking to each other, not to me.] Riley, please repeat after me.
Payton, I take you to be my partner in life and my one true love.
(Riley) Payton, I take you to be my partner in life and my one true love.

(Ernest) I will cherish our friendship,
(Riley) I will cherish our friendship,

(Ernest) I will love you through the best and the worst,

(Ernest) I will love you through the difficult and the easy.

(Ernest) As I have given you my hand to hold,
(Riley) As I have given you my hand to hold,

(Ernest) so I give you my life to keep.
(Riley) so I give you my life to keep.

(Ernest) Payton, please repeat after me.
Riley, I take you to be my partner in life and my one true love.
(Payton) Riley, I take you to be my partner in life and my one true love.

(Ernest) I will take nurture and cherish our relationship,
(Payton) I will take nurture and cherish our relationship,

(Ernest) and love you today, tomorrow, and forever.
(Payton) and love you today, tomorrow, and forever.

(Ernest) I will always be open, honest, and faithful to you.
(Payton) I will always be open, honest, and faithful to you.

(Ernest) I promise to love and to cherish you
(Payton) I promise to love and to cherish you

(Ernest) for all the days of our lives.

(Ernest) so I give you my life to keep.

I, Henry, take you, Rory, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow.

Elliot, I welcome you as an equal partner in marriage. I promise to continue to love, respect, and be faithful to you, for all of our days. I will communicate fully and honestly with you. When you are happy, I will smile and laugh with you. When you are feeling down, I will hug you and remind you why I chose you, and tell you how happy I am that you chose me. I will always strive to support, encourage, and inspire you. Your dreams will be my dreams, and together we will make those dreams come true. I love you.

Michael, together we will build a home full of compassion, joy, warmth, and security. I promise to give you the best of myself and to ask of you no more than you can give. I will work, even when the work seems hard, to honor our vows and respect our differences. I promise to work by your side to raise our children, when we are blessed to have them. You will always have my love and attention; I promise to set aside quality time every day for us to be alone together.

I love you, Ashley. Since we have been together I have grown more and more in love with you. Now I cannot imagine myself without you as my wife, the mother of my children, the sparkle which awakes me in the morning and cuddles me as we drift to sleep at night. Your energy revives me when life has worn me out. You calm me down when life has annoyed me. You are the steadiest influence in my life, and my rock in times of trouble. I promise to grow along with you, to willingly face all challenges that life hands us, and to keep our relationship alive and never, ever boring.

Megan, you are my Anam Cara, my soulmate, my one true love. When we connected at the bonfire, I knew you were the person I wanted to marry. We soon became completely open and trusting, and our two souls began to flow together. You accepted me as I truly am, and I hold you in beauty and in light. I believe that you and I, are now being mystically joined as one, together in ancient and eternal union. With you I have found my home, now and for eternity, across all barriers of time, space and way of thinking. Today we join the blessèd company of others, who throughout the centuries, have found them own Anam Cara.

Christopher, I love you with my whole heart. I accept you unconditionally. I promise to be faithful to you. I will always be grateful, that you have stayed by my side, even when it was difficult. I pledge to respect your unique talents and abilities, to lend you strength for all of your dreams. I promise to love you in good times and in bad, with all I have to give, in the only way I know, completely and forever.

In the presence of God and our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner, in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, in sorrow as well as in joy. I will cherish our friendship, and love you today tomorrow and forever. I will trust you, honor you and respect you. I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will love you unconditionally, through the best and the worst, the difficult and the easy. I take you David, to be no other than yourself, loving what I know of you, trusting what I do not yet know, with respect for your integrity, and faith in your love for me.

Heather today I join my life with yours. To stand by your side and sleep in your arms. To be faithful to you, in word and in deed. To be a joy to your heart, and food to your soul. To work as partners, and live as a family, while we grow old together. I vow to love honor and respect you, to hold you in my heart, but not try to bend you to my will. I promise to listen carefully, and to speak only the truth with love. To stay with you through struggle and enjoyment, all the days of my life.
